João Magalhães was born and raised in Porto, Portugal, and has been immersed in golf since the age of four.

From the age of seven, João represented the Portuguese National Teams, competing internationally and gaining extensive experience at the highest levels of junior and amateur golf. During his youth career, he became an eight-time National Champion, achievements that laid the foundation for a lifelong pursuit of excellence in the game.

At 19, João moved to the United States to combine high-level golf with his academic path. He completed a four-year degree in Business Administration while competing in collegiate golf, where he served as team captain and earned First Team All-American honors during his senior year.

After finishing college, João spent three years competing professionally. While professional competition was important for his development, he gradually discovered that his greatest fulfillment came from coaching, mentoring, and developing players.

Today, João is the founder and head coach of JM Golf Academy, where he applies everything he has learned from elite competition, international experience, and structured training systems to help golfers reach their full potential.

Located in Quinta da Marinha, Cascais, Oitavos Dunes is one of Europe’s most prestigious links golf courses. Designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills, the course opened in 2001 and has since earned an international reputation for excellence.

In 2017, Oitavos Dunes was ranked 55th among the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses, reflecting its outstanding design, natural setting, and championship-level challenge. True to the links golf tradition, the course integrates coastal dunes, Atlantic winds, and firm playing conditions, offering a pure and authentic golfing experience.

The club continues to invest consistently in the development of its facilities, including a modern and expansive driving range featuring a target green system ranging from 50 to 160–170 meters, providing an excellent environment for structured practice and performance-focused training.
